It went to 5 maps and it was the perfect finals matchup. All maps were agreed with no cheese, no window drops, etc. and it was a great matchup. On the final map, NovemberCE105, Team Drew came away with a 1-0 shutout victory to finish a great season of MLUT. Great games Team Drew and Greater Than You.

Congratulations Team de`CombatDrewzky. MLUT III Champions!

MLCTF III :: Playoffs - Round One - Complete
Posted By: -Tempest @ Sat Mar 20, 2004 10:22 am \\ Comments: 0
Round one of the MLCTF III playoffs has now been completed.

On the first night of matches, we were treated to two upsets, as underdogs Greater Than You and HairStyle beat Here To Beat Durron, champions of MLCTF I, and !, respectively.

The first matchup between Here To Beat Durron and Greater Than You was an exciting affair that went to three maps, with Greater Than You winning CTF-Lucius by a score of 2-1, followed by Here To Beat Durron winning CTF-Coret by a score of 2-1, and concluding with a 2-0 victory by Greater Than You on CTF-Orbital.

The second matchup, between HairStyle and ! was also a close affair, with HairStyle taking CTF-Lucius by a score of 2-1, and CTF-LavaGiant by a score of 3-2. It is worth noting, however, that both maps went to sudden-death overtime.

The second evening featured matches between Team Drew and Here To Beat Here To Beat Durron, and The Main Event and Apathy. The outcomes of these matches seemed to be a little more as expected, with The Main Event being the number one seed and Team Drew being ranked at number three.

Team Drew took Here To Beat Here To Beat Durron in two maps, shutting out HTBHTBD's offence. CTF-Bollwerk was won by a score of 4-0, and CTF-Coret by a score of 1-0. Perhaps with Here To Beat Durron out of the playoffs, HTBHTBD had no motivation to continue ;)

The Main Event also took Apathy in two maps, taking CTF-Lavagiant 3-2 and CTF-Coret 3-0. It looks like Durron will not be defeated as easily as those who were here to see him beaten.

Kudos to Ballistic, KillerHurtz, Wally, and Drew for making it to round two, and congratulations to Burner, Weegie, Rutzy, and GodAlmost for making in this far. Demos for all matches should be available on the recap pages.

In other news, due to events occuring in the MLSA league, ph34r has elected to hold out from Team Drew.

The playoffs will occur after the All-Star break and the All-Star game itself, which will occur (hopefully) on Thursday, March 11th, at a time to be announced (but probably 10:00-10:30 PM EST for a start time). All-Star Lineups will be announced over the course of the weekend once voting is complete. Playoff action will begin the Sunday immediately following.

At 9:00 on All-Star game day, if we can get it setup, we may also attempt to have an All-Star Skills competition, where divisions will compete in categories such as Fastest Solo Flag Run, and Fastest Team Flag Run. Heck, that might be all we can fit in in an hour :) If the teams are interested in this, let me know.
MLCTF III :: Player Suspension - |desolation|
Posted By: -Tempest @ Thu Feb 26, 2004 6:35 pm \\ Comments: 5
MLCTF III would like to announce that |desolation|, a member of Team Drew's roster, has been indefinitely suspended from Major League Capture The Flag League Play, with a possible suspension from all MLUT leagues pending.

|desolation| was caught using the Helios Radar prior to a Major League Sniper Arena match, when he was kicked from the server by the cheat protection used by MLSA (AntiFireAdjust v37, downloadable at http://www.unrealadmin.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=24 ). This puts him in direct violation of MLSA I Rule 3.0, which states:

quote:
Originally posted by MLCTF III Rule 3.0 - Cheating

All hacks, bots, radars and cheats are of course illegal. Please use your brain. Any violations will result in an indefinite suspension for the offending player, a forfeit loss of the match in question for the offending team, and a possible disqualification from the season for the offending team, pending review.

As such, he was banned from play in that league, and the server logs were made public. No action has been taken against his team at this time in this league.

Since we are currently unaware as to whether or not the cheat in question was installed on his system prior to this occasion, as well as whether or not the version of UTPure in use on the MLCTF III servers would have been able to detect it, we are erring to the side of caution and suspending |desolation| from MLCTF III unless he can prove that he did not have that file installed on his system.

Being that this did not occur during a MLCTF III match, no additional action will be taken against Team Drew, as we do not believe that Team Drew was previously aware of |desolation|'s actions. In addition, Team Drew will be granted a temporary exemption from Rule 1.6's locked rosters to draft a suitable replacement.

An investigation is currently being performed as to whether he did or did not, in fact, cheat.

Update: I have just recently finished having a conversation with |desolation|, wherein he provided me with his versions of the packages in question. A few things struck me as quite odd, most importantly the modified dates of the files being excessively suspicious, as well as the fact that a DemoManager2.ini that he sent me was in fact DemoManager2.int, which should have been udemo.int (according to the official UMOD .txt file), and it also did not having the correct information as MMC would have reported it. I was not, however, sent the uTV.uTV files that Desolation has had in his ini for months. I was sent the stock UTV files off the MLUT webspace. A few other things didn't really come across as crystal clear.

After I told him we were going to play it safe and suspend him until we could do some more research, he flipped out and banned me from his channel.

MLCTF III :: Looking for more admins :)
Posted By: -Tempest @ Sun Feb 22, 2004 10:58 pm \\ Comments: 0
Match Admins are required to:
* Show up Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday from 9:00 to 11:00 PM EST (or for at least one hour of those time slots on each night).
* Spectate matches.
* Not be an asshole.

Prediction Admins are required to:
* Write two predictions for each division, for each week.
* Sort this out with the other prediction writers so that every match gets coverage.

It's not hard, yet for some reason our current staff can't seem to comply, so I've made some cuts.

We're looking for more.

Interested? Contact me in IRC.

I was inspired by {PiN}wesdog's recap so much that I decided to go one step further and try to post an overwhelming recap. Attempting it, I surpassed myself doing the Team Drew vs Apathy recap and possibly opened a new door in posting.

Noticing the huge response from the community for such posting, I encourage anyone interested in creating phenomenal predictions and recaps to step forward for the challenge. This is not an easy task, and if you don't have a minimum of 1 hour to put into a single post, I strongly suggest that you not do these.

My guess is that the community will expect wes and myself to continue working to bring you exciting and extraordinary recaps!

Draft Complete

Well as you can see it seems the draft ran rather smoothly last night. All the teams are under their respective team titles under the 'Teams' bar at the top.
As usual the trades are updated on the lower right of the website. If you were not picked you can still be traded for, you will find yourself under the 'Free Agent' bar also located at the top.

Thank you for all of you that participated and a special thanks goes out to all the admins and apples for the bot as well as the other gamesurge staff.

The schedule will be made up asap and lets get this thing rolling =).
MLCTF III :: Draft And Other Details
Posted By: -Tempest @ Wed Feb 04, 2004 2:39 pm \\ Comments: 2
Hello once again, folks.

Just have a few updates where MLCTF III is concerned.

First off, the draft has been scheduled for Sunday, February 8th @ 9:00 PM EST, and will take place in a channel to be announced once I get it registered again. I'd prefer seeing the captains around a little earlier than this, so perhaps we can get a test round going BEFORE the start of the draft so we aren't looking at having it finish too late (the drafts have finished well past midnight my time). Oh, and if anyone knows how I can contact Apples, let me know :)

Salary cap and round caps are as follows:

Salary Cap - $3,400
Round 1 - $2,100
Round 2 - $1,800
Round 3 - $1,550
Round 4 - $1,300
Round 5 - $1,050
Round 6 - $800
Round 7 - $550
Round 8 - $400
Round 9 - $275
Round 10 - $200
Round 11 - $0

Second, our search for servers is proceeding relatively smoothly, but the more the merrier. So, if you haven't gotten ahold of me, contact myself or another one of the MLCTF III admins to give us the details. We need console/web admin for certain, and direct FTP access or someone who can be around every match night in case we need FTP access would be a big, big plus. I'll post a list of the servers we have very, very soon.

Third, MLCTF III is disappointed to say that [Z]Rob, a star player from MLCTF I and II, and the highest ranked salary player for MLCTF II and III, has elected to withdraw from MLCTF competition for this season. He doesn't feel he has the time to compete and doesn't want to leave a team hanging high and dry after they spend a bunch of cash on him. Hopefully he'll be back to play in MLCTF IV.

Fourth, we're looking to have another Pug Night this year. Plans are for it to start Friday night and run until Sunday morning, so you can pug either night all night long. I just need to make sure all of the servers are set up.

Finally, to those hopefuls that were looking for us to up the number of teams this year, the MLCTF staff has decided that it is far too late in the game to add more captains. However, if interest stays up for MLCTF IV, we'll probably jump it up to 14 teams, possibly with the top team from each division getting a bye into the playoff rounds.
MLCTF III :: Changes Due To IRC Network Merger
Posted By: -Tempest @ Tue Feb 03, 2004 3:54 pm \\ Comments: 0
Just to let you all know, there are no changes with the main MLUT channels as a result of the network merger. However, some teams have lost their channels due to them being in the possession of various Counter-Strike clans among other things.

So, be sure to check the teams listing for updates to find your team!

The captains have been notified and the list will be posted once they all confirm their team name, team channel, and team tag.

Once that is done we will begin ranking the signups.

Also, if you're cut from the player list, I'll try and notify you. I'm not certain as to how many players we'll eliminate, however.

I'll keep you all posted on league progress.

Rule 1.9 - Game Settings, has been updated to include the following information.

The AntiTimer v3 Mutator will be running on MLCTF servers. Be sure to enable this mutator in the mutators section of your server.

The decision to use AntiTimer was decided upon unanimously by the admins, and while alternate time variations were discussed, the 100-140% variation inherent to the mutator was kept.

MLCTF III :: Ban Addtions and Removals.
Posted By: -Tempest @ Sat Jan 17, 2004 11:39 am \\ Comments: 0
Copied from the ProUnreal forums post.

A decision has been made regarding the conduct of Wretchy and Hubbs during the final round of the regular season of MLCTF II. For those of you who are unaware, Hubbs knowingly and willingly allowed Wretchy to ring for the team that Hubbs was co-captaining, Resistance is Futile. As a result, MLUT has seen it fit to ban both Wretchy and Hubbs for a minimum of one full season of MLUT play. This case will be reviewed at the end of Season Three, with the bans possibly being removed.

In a similar vein, the banning of Gar|and during Season One has been reviewed, and a decision has been made. MLUT will permit Gar|and to play during MLCTF III should he have the desire; however, he is not allowed to assume the role of captain or co-captain. Whether or not he is still around or even playing is not really something we thought about when looking into removing this, so don't bother with posts saying "Why bother? He doesn't play anymore!". Thanks.
MLCTF III :: League Status Update

Copied from the ProUnreal forums post.

First, I would like to address two minor things. If you would like to write the occasional freelance prediction, feel free to do so. You can either submit it to myself or another administrator, who will then post it under their account with a header indicating it is your prediction. This is so that people who wish to make the occasional prediction can do so without the maintenance of also being an admin. Trust us, anything that can lower our workload won't receive complaints from us. Also, we need servers. Right now, it looks like we still have the Zenkai Texas servers, as well as cu-viking's Missouri server. With Rebirth now becoming an active pub, that is no longer an option.

What we're looking for are servers in good, popular, reasonably neutral locations (St. Louis, Chicago, Texas most likely). We will need FTP access to, at the very least, demos and stats (Zenkai is setup this way, so I can ask them for instructions), and console/web admin (or at least MODOSUtils' serverside demo command enabled). Servers will be required to be running the newest version of UTPure, CB12 (the new TIW), the newest version of SmartCTF, and the Anti-Aliasing modification from Catcher's CTF (once signups are complete we will get an ini rolling for you); there is also the possibility of AntiTimer, which is being voted on right now. If you want more information on this, please please please contact me via PM. No servers means no playing, so we need some support on this. I personally don't have the cash to dole out to fund any, so don't look at me.

Second, there have been plenty of rules updates and a few changes since the end of season two. Some of the confusing parts have been rewritten to provide additional clarity. A summary of these changes can be found below, and the rules in their entirety will be visible on the MLCTF III website. Of special note are sections 1.6, 1.9, 2.1, 2.5, 3.9, and 3.10. If you see any loopholes in the rules, please feel free to bring them to our attention.

Finally, now that the rules are pretty much finalized, captain signups are now open. We will no longer accept captain signups after Tuesday, January 20th, at 11:59 PM EST. Regular player signups will open on Sunday, January 18th, at 10:00 PM EST, and will run until Friday, January 23rd, at 11:59 PM EST, to allow the admins a chance to process the applications. It is our aim to have the draft on Sunday, February 1st, at a time to be announced, at the latest.

If you have any questions or comments regarding any of these issues, please reply here, drop me a pm, or contact me in IRC (irc.progameplayer.com #mlut).
