UT Capture the Flag II
MLCTF :: Seeking Admins for MLCTF III
Posted By: -Tempest @ Sun Dec 28, 2003 12:47 pm \\ Comments: 0
First off, I'd like to preface this by saying I hope everyone is having a good holiday season and enjoying the time off from the league -- I know I am (but actually, I guess I'm still doing work here).

Major League Unreal Tournament Capture The Flag is currently seeking to add to its administrator roster. For Season Three, the administrators will be given specific roles, and will be expected to fulfill them to the best of their duties in the interests of making Season Three flow as smoothly as possible for the players, captains, and administrators, hopefully making this season even more successful than the previous two.

The screening process will follow a few simple steps in the interest of selecting a competent and reliable administration staff. The first step following sending a private message will be filling out a brief questionnaire -- this questionnaire will mostly provide us with a brief overview of your competences as well as some insight into your judgement process; it will also allow us to better assess your aptitudes and find out where your interests lie. The second step will involve a brief discussion with a member of the already existing administrative staff, a miniature job interview if you will. The final step will involve a discussion and vote amongst the current administrative staff.

Successful applicants will be notified by private message once a decision has been reached, and will be noted in a thread on the Major League Unreal Tournament forum.

Major League Unreal Tournament is looking to fulfill the following slots for MLCTF III :

Four (4) to Six (6) Match Administrators -- The duties for these administrators would involve the pre-match setup between two given teams, as well as spectating the match to ensure everything flows smoothly. These administrators would be responsible for adhering to the forfeit rules and ensuring that they are enforced (and take note that these rules WILL be enforced in Season Three -- there is NO reason for 90% of matches to start a half hour late). Furthermore, they would be fully expected to provide complete predictions and match recaps for any matches they administrate in the playoffs. In addition, they are free to post predictions and recaps for regular season matches should they so choose, but this is not required. A given match administrator should be available to administer two matches on a given night, although this will hopefully not be necessary. Being able to use UTV effectively is a bonus.

Two (2) to Three (3) Staff Prediction Writers -- The duties for these administrators would consist solely of writing predictions for three to four matches in a given round. They would not be required to be present for matches and would not need to write recaps for any regular season matches (although if they do so this would be much appreciated). Any person who does not believe they can write three to four quality match predictions a round need not apply. Providing a sample of your work (perhaps for a season two matchup) would give you brownie points in the process.

Two (2) Staff UTV Broadcasters -- These administrators would be responsible for providing UTV broadcasts of an average of three matches a round (hopefully relieving match admins from this duty, although certain admins may want to broadcast UTV). Should our match admins be able and willing to broadcast UTV, this requirement will probably drop to two. UTV experience is a bonus (preferably citing any incidents where you may have broadcasted in the past).

In addition the league will also be providing Shoutcasts, but these slots have already been filled by the GUNradio casters.

Interested applicants would be advised to send a private message to -Tempest on the ProUnreal forums to receive a copy of the questionnaire. Once the questionnaire is filled out, please send it to -Tempest via private message (or, if it's more convenient for you, via DCC on irc.pgpn.com #mlut).
MLCTF II :: Your Winners - You + Me = Us
Posted By: -Tempest @ Sun Dec 21, 2003 11:57 pm \\ Comments: 0
You + Me = Us, captained by Calculus, comes out on top over runners-up Here To Win, captained by durron, in three straight maps.

You + Me = Us won their map pick, Bollwerk, 3-1 in regulation.
You + Me = Us won Here To Win's map pick, Gauntlet, via forfeit.
You + Me = Us won the third map, Terra, 1-0 in regulation.

The forfeit was assigned due to Here To Win being unable to provide a starting lineup within the first fifty minutes that followed the designated match start time. An extra cushion was given due to this being the finals, but enough is enough.

Congratulations to You + Me = Us for coming out victorious at the end of an exciting season of MLCTF.

MLCTF III will be coming to you in the new year -- look for news concerning it to be forthcoming.

dio/Apollo has completed his work on the Stat Compiler (AKA Conostats) for MLUT! A big "Thank You" goes out to Apollo for his hard work on Conostats!

As of now, all of the current stats have been uploaded and processed. Unfortunately, the stats for a few games were lost due to the FTP access going down on the Chicago server. We apologize for this, and can assure you this will not happen in the future. The stat page should now be up to date, with almost every MLCTF II Regular Season and Playoff game logged!

MLCTF II :: RiF Suspended from League Play

[Mirrored from the MLUT Forum]

This is a major announcement that affects the current playoff pairings and regular season final standings for MLCTF II.

Resistance is Futile has been removed from the playoffs, having been disqualified, as of 8:30 PM Eastern (GMT -5) on Monday, December 8th, 2003. As a result, the Knights of Honor have moved into fourth place in Division Two, and are now in the pairings for the first round against You+Me=Us.

Resistance is Futile has been found in violation of Rule 1.6 - Player Eligibility, under the following section :

quote:
Originally posted by MLCTF II - Rule 1.6 - Player Eligibility

Teams are allowed to make any legal roster changes right up until match time in order to ensure a full roster. If a team is found to be using a ringer (i.e. a player not on their roster), they will be disqualified from the tournament.

An incident occurred following the first map of the Resistance is Futile versus Anal Avengers matchup, wherein Resistance is Futile acquired a player not on their roster to play the second map. The "ringer" in question assumed the pseudonym of "niTr0", niTr0 having left after the first map was played.

Upon further review of the situation following the matchup, the MLCTF II Administrators deemed Resistance is Futile to be in violation of Rule 1.6, thus suspending them from all tournament play.

An inquiry is underway in the matter, verifying the identity of the ringer, and action will be meted out amongst guilty parties once the investigation is complete.
MLCTFII :: VITAL ANNOUNCEMENT ** TRADES RESET **
Posted By: -Tempest @ Sun Dec 07, 2003 6:56 pm \\ Comments: 5
This is a major announcement that affects all teams who have made Trades in the past 72 hours, as well as any players that may have been affected by these trades, either having been added or removed to the rosters of said teams.

All trades that occured on and after 9:00 PM Eastern (GMT -5), on Thursday, December 4th, 2003, have been reversed as of 7:00 Eastern (GMT -5), on Sunday, December 7th, 2003. The rosters of Rage Against The Machine, Next Stop, Hyrule, and Crack Babies have been locked. The roster for the Knights of Honor will be locked at 9:00 PM EST, as their match begins.

Rosters have been reset to what they were prior to the flurry of shady and and questionable trading that occured that day as well as the next two days. This includes trades that may have been legitimate in nature and were not connected to the trades in question that prompted this reset. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to those teams.

Invoking Rule 3.9 of the MLCTF II rulebook, a vote was held between members of the administrative council, and the final tally as of the close of the vote was 5 votes in favour of a reset, and 2 votes opposed to a reset.

The reasoning behind this reset is that it was deemed that captains were abusing the Free Agent system, dropping players after they were removed from playoff contention so that other teams could add to their rosters by picking up players that may be considered more skillful. This was due in part to an oversight in rules construction by the admins, in not including a trade deadline to compensate for ethical problems.

Were this only occuring in a single instance, the individual trade would have been reversed. However, after one such trade occured (which was questionable in its timing, and thus was almost exempted), a flurry of activity occured.

The incidents spurring this vote and final decision were:

Incident A: Crack Babies (Captained by GodAlmost) dropping Co-Captain Hai-Ping, Hai-Ping being recruited by Here To Tweak (Captained by Rob)
This trade was questionable to begin with, as rumours had been circulating that Hai-Ping had infact dropped himself, which would have subjected Hai-Ping to the Holdout rule, thus increasing his salary and making him unable to play on Rob's team without Rob making more changes in his roster. However, it appears that GodAlmost did in fact make this trade.

The problem lied not in who made the trade, however, but the cirrcumstances surrounding it. The trade was made within minutes of Crack Babies announcing their intention to forfeit their fifth round game (either shortly before, or shortly after; variances in MLUT System Time and local user system time makes it swing either way). Rob insists that this trade was made before the forfeit, and even before Crack Babies was aware that they had been completely eliminated from MLCTF Playoff Contention due to Here To Beat Durron winning the first map of their set.

However, upon further review, the Admin/UTV broadcaster for the match, -Tempest, noted some faults in the situation. Cross-refercing personal logs with website logs and timestamps, an approximate timeline of events can be summed up as this :

@ 10:34 EST - Here To Beat Durron begins playing their first map.
@ 10:49 EST - Here To Beat Durron successfully wins the first map; both client-side and server-side demo timestamps confirm this fact.
@ 11:10 EST - Crack Babies announces their intention to forfeit to {CU}viking, the administrator for this match, due to not being able to make it in on points. They cancelled this decision while apparently discussing further, and later confirmed the forfeit. Thus, it appears that they knew they were eliminated before this point.
@ 11:12 EST - Crack Babies drops Hai-Ping from their roster.

While these were not guaranteed to be 100% accurate, this issue was voted on and the admins voted in favour of overturning this trade.

Incident B: Rage Against The Machine (Captained by D1K) dropping a good portion of strong players.
Much more solidly a case of system abuse than that of GA and Hai, D1K dropped most of his solid playerbase and recruited a pack of cheaper players, driving his salary well below the cap, and thus indicating that he was probably attempting to saturate the free agent pool with stronger players. Weegie was quoted as saying that he had been attempting to negotiate a trade for m3ss for most of the season, and the fact that D1K repeatedly refused and then suddenly agreed once his team was solidly eliminated from the playoffs adds to the suspicion.

A similar incident occured in Season One with Gar|and, and those trades were overruled; thus, with a precedent having been set, the league voted in favour of reversing all of these trades.

This decision was made to preserve both the legitimacy of the playoffs as well as the integrity of the rosters of the teams, rosters that had carried their teams to a playoff birth.

Any complaints may be addressed towards -Tempest over any other admins.

Division 1 !UPDATE!
Posted By: Psycho @ Sun Nov 23, 2003 12:16 pm \\ Comments: 4
Two rounds in and things are starting to take shape in division 1. Time for a recap of what's happened so far, and what's still to come.

You + Me = Us
Calculus' team has gotten off to a strong start and are in a tie for the division lead. The captain and co-captain duo of Calculus and Drew are the leaders both on and off the field for this team. This team however is very dependant on Drew, the team is 3-0 with him in the lineup and 0-1 without him. Combine this with the fact that Drew's health has been a concern for the past 2 seasons and this team is constantly on the brink of disaster. Drew's asthma has been bad lately, which causes him to lose his breath and be ineffective for short periods of time. If Drew can play asthma free and he can make every match, him and Calculus should bring this team in to the playoffs. They play a struggling Next Stop, Hyrule team this week, as they look to take sole possession of first place. Calculus had this to say about his teamate and the upcomng match.

[calculus] drew is the heart and soul of this team, and he comes out to compete everynight. without drew we'd be lost, simple as that. he is such a competitor, you can see that the asthma is bothering him... that it's affecting his play, but he plays through it for the team. he's missing shots he'd normally make as he keels over and grasps for a breath from time to time... but him just being on the field makes us a better team.

Here To Beat Durron
Last year's champ have started off this season with a bang as they are tied for first in the division. They have the best capture efficiency in the league and were early favorites to win MLCTF_II until superstar player Esso was killed a tragic auto accident. Esso was picking up NightFall for shockrifle practice and both players were killed on impact. The impact being NightFall getting in to the truck... the truck crumpled at the passenger seat killing both occupants... the horrible photo can be seen HERE. But this wasn't the only hard luck that would befall the reigning champs, shortly after the accident Ballistic checked himself in to a rehab center. Ballistic has admitted to being addicted to masturbation and is taking the first step to recovery, he released this statement to the press.

[ballistic] as of today I am entering myself in to rehab for my problem. they always say that the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.... well, i have a problem. It got to the point where i was missing practices on a regular basis... and then our last match. i want to apologize to both my teamates and family, and i promise i'll work my hardest to get back on the field as soon as i can.

The MLUT wishes Ballistic the best of luck as he continues to fight his addiction. With two of their best three players out though, Here To Beat Durron might be in for some rough times. They were able to split last week with Next Stop, Hyrule! however they are in tougher tonight against The Jackson 12. Here To Beat Durron will have to hope players like Psycho, Cheese and Konkin can step up their game to fill the void.

MLCTF Rules Update - Forfeit Clarifications
Posted By: -Tempest @ Sun Nov 23, 2003 1:59 am \\ Comments: 3
Please note that, due to delays in getting matches started on time, as well as issues with excessive delays between maps during a match, Rule 1.4 - Match Scheduling has been recently updated.

Rule 1.4 was originally written as

Originally posted by 1.4 Match Scheduling Psycho

All matches are prescheduled by the MLCTF staff and times will be posted on the MLCTF website. If a team can not field a lineup (5 legal players) and begin the match by 15 minutes past the stated time they will receive a forfeit loss.

Rule 1.4 now reads

All matches are prescheduled by the MLCTF staff and times will be posted on the MLCTF website. If a team cannot field an adequate lineup (5 legal players) at match time, they will be subject to a forfeit loss. The specific rules for a forfeit loss due to a lack of players are enumerated under sections 1.4a through 1.4e.

Additional rules 1.4a through 1.4e read as follows :

Originally posted by 1.4a Forfeit Loss - Match Time - Double Forfeit -Tempest

If neither team can field a team of five players fifteen minutes after the designated start match time or arrival of an admin, whichever is later, both teams receive a forfeit loss for both maps, neither team receiving any points.

If, between maps, Team B cannot field a team of five (5) members ten (10) minutes after Team A has fielded five (5) members, provided an admin is present and all five (5) members of Team A signal their presence, Team B forfeits the map and Team A is awarded points for a map win.

Jackson 12 Shuffle Again
Posted By: Psycho @ Tue Nov 18, 2003 11:58 am \\ Comments: 2
The Jackson 12 get back in on the action making another transaction, as they dropped Nexus. Nexus has been dropped from 3 teams now without playing a single game. Rumour has it that, it's his locker room antics which are getting him in to trouble. Kravnos had this to say about Nexus...

(kravnos) running around the locker room naked with a BioRifle at your crotch pretending to 'spooge' everyone is not proper locker room behaviour. Someone could get seriously hurt, and were at an important time in our season. We've already lost our captain for a few weeks because hump had to tape himself humping Thriller's girlfriend.
(bigpoppa)DUDE!
(kravnos) aw shit, sorry man...you can edit that out right?

So who was to replace Nexus on the roster? None other than BigPoppaHump. According to inside sources, it was the co-captain Joe who made the transaction. Apparently Poppa gave Joe a video cassette and a wink as a bribe for said transaction, it's unknown as to the contents of the tape.
PiTHON Banned From League Play

Promising offensive superstar PiTHON has been banned from league play until further notice. Afer an injury riddled season last year, playing in just one game... the young star was signed by the Knights in hopes he could turn things around. PiTHON went down again in spring training however in a freak large black dildo accident which left him unable to walk. While rehabilitating the injury in Colorado, he was accused of raping an elderly cleaning lady in his hotel room. The trial is set to begin next month.
-TJ12- Trade Defence For Offence
Posted By: Psycho @ Sun Nov 16, 2003 10:30 am \\ Comments: 5
In a big move yesterday, the jackson 12 shook up their lineup after a 1-1 split in the first round. Captain Thriller dropped bigpoppahump, an all-star in season 1 and a force on defense. It's seems that Thriller thinks his team was short on some offence in the first round and grabbed the shifty Nexus to try and bolster it. Nexus played very well last season and should be a huge addition to TJ12.

Insiders are saying there may be more to this story though. It's been rumoured that there was an argument between Poppa and his captain Thriller following the first round. A few of the spectators in #mlut said they could hear shouts coming from #tj12priv and that Kravnos was seen fleeing the scene. That night BigPoppaHump was seen leaving Grace Memorial Hospital with a bandaged nose... and now Thriller has ended up on the injured reserve for -tj12- with a broken hand.. claiming to have fallen down some stairs....
Regular Season Schedule
Posted By: Psycho @ Sat Nov 15, 2003 11:17 am \\ Comments: 0
The schedule for the remainder of the regular season has been posted, you can now see who/when you play right up until the playoffs.. so plan accordingly. No teams play each other twice, and no team has more than 2 games in the same time slot, except I think for the Crack Babies who have 3 11:00pm starts.

The schedule originally posted for week 2 has changed, so please check that as well.
MLCTF Rules Clarification :: Overtime and TBs.
Posted By: -Tempest @ Fri Nov 14, 2003 11:48 am \\ Comments: 1
The question came up, so here's a clarification.

Maps DO go into overtime; maps do not finish in ties.
However, there are only two maps played each round; there is no tiebreaker third map. This changes for the playoffs.

Example:
If Team A and Team B play Orby into overtime, and Team A wins, Team A gets the points for a win and Team B gets the points for a loss.
If Team A and Team B each take a map, they split the points evenly; there is no tiebreaker played.

Hope that clears things up :)

Player Sign-Ups opened tonight at 10:00pm EST, and we're already at the 100 player mark! There are still plenty of spots however, so sign up here if you want to participate in MLCTF Season 2!

The rules have also been finalized, and the map lists posted. An important rule that the captains especially should become familiar with is summarized below.

Excerpt from Rule 1.3: Map List
"During each round of the regular season, there is a predetermined maplist. Each team selects one map from this list as their map choice for that "game". The other team gets color choice. There are no tiebreakers during the regular season. Teams are not required to disclose their map choice until the time of the match, and are encouraged to keep their choice a secret from their opponent. Should both teams choose the same map, they may play that map twice, or should either team decide to switch map picks, they are allowed to do so.

During the playoffs, specifically the QuarterFinals and SemiFinals, teams will once again choose one map from a predetermined list, however, there will be predetermined tiebreakers, as the playoffs are single elimination best of 3 maps.

The Finals is a best of 5 maps game, with each team choosing one map from any map in the tournament, and 3 prechosen tiebreakers."

The maplist for the First Round of Season 2 is:

Orbital
Dreary
K-Lined
Esprit

Please visit the Rules section of the site for a more comprehensive list.
